To ensure the equitable management of water quality and quantity to sustain natural ecosystems, industry, agriculture, human consumption and other urban and domestic uses on the Island, the KI NRM Board runs the Rivers of Life program.
This program has three components:

- development of a Regional Water Management Plan for Kangaroo Island to facilitate the sustainable use of water resources
- implementation of a well-planned and rigorous framework to monitor water resource condition and evaluate management effectiveness into the future
- capacity building activities supporting the development of a community aware of water resources issues and water conservation principles and adopting best practice management throughout Kangaroo Island.
One of the first activities of the program was to establish water quality and quantity baseline information for benchmarking and monitoring programs. From this data a
Technical Background to Water Management Planning on Kangaroo Island report has been developed. An executive summary of this report and other
fact sheets are available through the Document Library.
